Al did not hesitate to find the Alpha of his pack. I’d made Alfari’s job a ton easier. He no longer had to tear the crowd, coercing people for information. We were one step closer to getting what we’d come here for: a deal with the werewolves for added protection.

“I don’t believe a fuckin’ witch and some vampires have the nerves to show up here at my club.” Akamu was three hundred pounds of muscles with tribal tattoos inked from his shoulders and extending down to his torso. If we should back down and rethink a plan through, now was the time.

“While you’re in this club drinkin’ strong drinks and sniffin’ your balls in the woods, demons are closin’ in on all of us. Demons that can rip your heart out and wear it ‘round their neck as a necklace.” I looked into his deep brown eyes. They went on for miles, like murky water in a river.

“Unless you don’t care ‘bout gettin’ ya position overthrown by demons.” I crossed my legs, waiting to hear what Akamu had to say. I was told he was a hard ass like most leaders, yet I was willing to go toe to toe with him for the greater good.

“My great-grandfather hated witches after that bit—” Akamu grabbed hold of his neck as I crushed his throat with my thumb and index fingers pressed together.

“My grandmother is dead, and I don’t give a fuck ‘bout what your great-grandfather thought ‘bout her. She did what she felt was right since you mangy wolves don’t know how to stay out of trouble. You think she was gon’ risk her entire family havin’ pity for your people?” I released Akamu before he reached his last breath. I needed him and his pack, and murdering him would not make me look too noble in this pack’s eyes.

“I will rip your hands off,” Akamu threatened.

“Not if I crush your little Werewolf throat before you’re able to.” I uncrossed my legs and leaned forward in the chair.

“But like I said before, I’m not here to cause any trouble. I want us to be in alliance like old times. We are fresh generations, so we can run this a new way. The rise of new rulership.” I placed my hands on Akamu’s wrists, then my body jerked up and collapsed. I saw images of the girl from Benson, the one who’d lost her mother back at the barn, and she had the same eyes of Akamu.

“She is your daughter and because of the demons, she lost her mother. The little girl in Benson, the slaughter that happened days ago.” I removed my hands from his flesh and my body was stricken with coldness and grief. The loss of his child’s mother had hit his heart deep; too much for my soul to bear, so I blew his pain back into his nostrils and tapped out of it.

“What do you know ‘bout what happened to Mamie?” Akamu’s eyes glowed red, and he stood over me like he wanted to bite my heart out.
